A proper outfit and set of weaponry is vital to keeping your character safe when on a journey into the wilderness. There are many types of armor and weapons, each with a unique set of positives and negatives. You’ll probably want to invest in a diverse range of gear to accommodate a variety of landscapes and situations.

Don’t forget that the aspects of your items will change unless they are enchanted with a special spell! As with all items, the flavor-text and description will automatically import to your character sheet when you select the item and aspect.

Weapons

Your weapon is used in combat! In order to be able to properly parry, every character should have a melee weapon, even if they don’t plan on being combat-centralized. However, not every place will allow you to openly carry weapons. For that reason, you may find yourself having to pack your weapon away in your backpack or suitcase. If you feel you might need something in a pinch, you may consider investing in a concealable weapon, which can be hidden in a pocket, or an open-carry weapon, which is publicly acceptable.

When making an attack with a crossbow, the aspect of the bolt is what determines the attack’s aspect, rather than the aspect of the crossbow. Matching your ammo to your crossbow will, however, grant you the affinity bonus. Each piece of ammo can only be used once, so be sure to stock up on it if you plan on going with range weaponry!

Like when crafting tools, you use rough materials when crafting weapons and armor.

Armor

Whenever your character is hit, the value of their armor can be subtracted from the damage they would take. Armor is twice as effective against aspects that it is strong against and half as effective against aspects that it is weak against.

Armor can be quite heavy, so always keep in mind how much your character can lift. You’ll need to find a balance between weight, cost, and element. You might even consider investing in a few pairs to change between when traveling to different regions.

Clothing

Clothing can give all sorts of bonuses, depending on how it is made and what it is made of. There are many types of clothing made from many different materials. Clothing comes in four different color varieties, each of which can be seen on your character sheet. Try them out to see what you like best!

Clothing is typically sold as an outfit (complete with shoes), not as an individual set of parts, however some items are sold as add-ons. These items are marked with a [+]. You may NOT stack multiples of the same add-on category. No wearing two scarves, two sets of glasses, two hats, etc.

Some clothing is resistant to certain types of weather. Clothing that is cold-resistant provides a bonus to survive checks versus cold; however, it also provides negatives to survive checks versus heat. The opposite is true of heat-resistant clothing.

Clothing with the Ruin Protection trait protects the rest of your clothing from becoming ruined by failed crafts. In addition, Silk Clothing ruins if it touches water, unless it is of the Aqua variety. Although an Apron can’t save silk from the rain, a raincoat can.

Jewelry

Although jewelry doesn’t give any bonuses unless masterwork (in which case the bonuses are the same as for clothing), it does make for a great item to enchant. It’s small, lightweight, and easily accessible for use as an aura or focus. Unfortunately, you may not reap the masterwork bonus for more than three pieces of jewelry at a time. A trio of defining pieces makes a good impression, wearing 15 rings and 30 necklaces is just gaudy.

The downside of enchanting jewelry is that it is very small, which makes it difficult to write on. Turning jewelry into an aura or focus (except for an amulet) gives a +15 to the difficulty of the scribe’s check. You will find that this greatly increases the price of jewelry-based magical items. Additionally, weapons and armor, jewelry must be made of fine materials, which cost more than the metals used in weaponry and tools.

When creating a piece of jewelry, mix and match the pieces below to create a unique piece.
